About Me

I began my teaching career in 2000 as a high school math teacher in the public schools, with Upward Bound, and as a supervisor/mentor to pre-service teachers. I later worked tutoring high school students and working as a math specialist at a local high school supporting students who were struggling.

When we returned to the Bay Area, I began working with new teachers (K-12) as an induction mentor. I spent time in classrooms all over Oakland and helped my teachers find their own unique voices within their practices. My focus was on helping them each get curious about themselves and the learners in their rooms and find ways to support each individual child. This ultimately led to my work as an IEP coach as so many teachers and their families were unsure how to navigate the IEP process.

Separate from my professional life, as parents my husband and I had an incredibly difficult time getting appropriate support for our autistic daughter and unfortunately ended up needing legal representation and pursuing Due Process. My husband wrote a book about our experience and our fight for equal access in education.

Thirteen Doors - Aaron Wright

What do you stand for? How far will you go to advocate for a loved one? What are your limits?

Thirteen Doors is a story of transformation, resilience, a parents’ love, and a family’s bond. This deeply moving and personal story brings us to the threshold of injustice and brings us through the thirteen doors to become a warrior for change.

My hope as an IEP coach is to help families and teams get curious about the child, build positive working relationships and avoid legal conflict. My number one focus is the child and making sure their program is affirming of who they are as a learner and a human being, and is implemented in a way that builds connection between them and the teams who are supporting them.
